West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme all Details

The West Bengal government has launched Student Credit Card Scheme. All students residing in West Bengal who are enrolled in Higher Educational Institutions & Competitive Examinations Coaching Centres, with the help of this credit card, can get a loan of up to 10 lakh for their studies.

Who are eligible?

Anyone who has spent 10 years in West Bengal and is under the age of 40 can take advantage of this scheme. Also, The student must have passed the tenth grade.

In which case the lone will be available?

The loan will be available for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies in India or abroad. Also, for students studying in various coaching institutes, preparing to appear in national-level competitive exams, including IITs, IIMs, NLUs, IAS, IPS, WBPS among others.

How to apply?

You can apply for the scheme on West Bengal’s official site here.

  1. Click on the “Student Application”
  2. A new page will open, here you have to fill up the information asked and press ‘Register’.
  3. An OTP will be sent to the mobile no. which you provide during registration. Enter the OTP to verify.
  4. A “registration Id” will be provided after the completion of registration.
  5. Go to wbscc.wb.gov.in and click on Student Login. A new page will open. You have to log in with that registration ID and password.
  6. The ‘Dashboard’ will open. Click on ‘Apply Now’ there.
  7. A new page will open. Fill in the information asked. The registration form will be different depending on whether you have an Aadhaar card or not. There will also be ‘Download Undertaking Documents’. If the student does not have a PAN card, he has to download ‘Download Undertaking Documents’. After giving all the information including address, bank account, press ‘Save & Continue ‘.
  8. A new page will open. Recheck all the documents and information there carefully. Then click ‘Submit Application. To change any information or document, click on ‘Edit Loan application’. Information cannot be changed once submitted.
  9. Then ‘Application Submitted to HOI’ will appear in ‘Dashboard’. This means that the application has gone to the head of the educational institution.
  10. Applications will be sent to the Department of Higher Education on behalf of the educational institute. Then ‘Application forwarded by to HOI to HED’ will appear in ‘Dashboard’.

Now you have to wait for your application to be granted by the Department of Higher Education.

What will the Loan Cover? 

The loan can be taken for the course fees, tuitions & hostel fees, books, study materials, Computers or Laptops, etc.

How will you pay back the loan? What is the Interest rate?

Students don’t have to worry about your loan payment during their course or exams. After one year of getting a job, a student will have 15 years time limit to pay back the loan amount (the amount you have taken for your studies) with 4% interest per year. The interest will start from one year after the student gets a job.

How the loan amount will be given?

The loan amount will be deposited in the bank to which the applicant submits the documents at the time of application. It can be any bank – government-run or private, even cooperative organization.
